Landmass of goa

Goa was reclaimed from the sea.According to one theory around 25,000 years ago the sea level of Goa began to recede. The net result was the emergence of the coastline from the Arabian Sea yet another theory states that the bottom of the Arabian Sea adjacent to the Deccan was lifted out of the sea water around 10,000 B.C. due to violent moment of the earth crust and the Malabar and Konkan coasts.

It appears that about 100,000 years ago man began, to move from the interiors to the islands of Goa.From Karnataka, man migrated to Goa along the Ghatprabha And Malprabha rivers. This early Goan man lived in caves, used crude tools and let the life of a food- hunter.

Primitive nature worship was a part of the lifestyle of the inhabitants. They worshipped the elements of nature. The monsoon was considered as the progenitor of vegetation. They also worshipped the earth- goddess. Man began to adopt to his environment by building Shelters of crude stone and wood.

For instance we find Pre-historic rock art in the kushavati valley at Usgalimol-Kovon-Dhandode,30 kms away from Margao. It seems that they date back to 5000-10,000 years ago. This period also witnessed the emergence of village communities and settlements especially in river valleys near Terekhol,Colvale,Mandovi and Zuari.
